Dear friends and patrons,
The New Gallery recently met to further discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and how it will impact our organization and staff. In response to additional developments with this situation, effective immediately, The New Gallery will be closed to the public until further notice.
Over the coming week, we will be strategizing new ways you can experience our current exhibitions online. We encourage you to visit our website where you can read past and present exhibition texts and view our programming. We will also be increasing social media posts about our current projects, which includes the following:
- Main Space: Nicole Brunel’s Every Worm Deserves a Mansion
- Billboard 208: Natalie Lauchlan’s For Russell
- Esker Project Space: Anna Gustafson’s Object Lessons
Calgary Chinatown Artist Residency:
Our Calgary Chinatown Artist Residency collaboration with the City of Calgary Public Art Program is postponed until further notice. This residency housed our artists in Clover Living, an Independent Living and 55+ Supportive Living Facility in the heart of Calgary Chinatown, for the duration of their 3-month residency. Additionally, the residency requires extensive community engagement work. At this time, the artists would be limited in their ability to undertake the community engagement work necessary for this residency, and would be living amongst an at-risk population. We will be working with our artists and partners to reschedule when we have a clearer timeline regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and can ensure the safety of our artists and the folks who reside at Clover Living.
M:ST 10 Residency:
Our upcoming M:ST 10 Residency in Northern Ireland with Halie Finney, presented in partnership with Catalyst and M:ST Performative Art for their 10th Anniversary Biennial, is postponed until further notice.
Supporting our team:
Our staff will continue to work, primarily from home and onsite as needed, but we will be following the City of Calgary’s recommendation that our team moves toward teleworking wherever possible to support physical distancing.
Special General Meeting:
Our upcoming Special General Meeting (SGM) remains scheduled for Thursday, March 26 at 6:30PM, but it will now be taking place via teleconference.
This SGM was previously called to appoint our annual auditors for the review of our financials prior to our Annual General Meeting in June. We will also use this meeting to elect new members to our Board of Directors. You must be a member in good standing to vote. If you are unsure about your membership status or need to purchase one, please contact our Director, Su Ying Strang, in advance of the meeting.
Skype will be used to support teleconferencing for this meeting. If you do not have Skype, it is free to download and use, and if you are unable to download for whatever reason, we are able to call your landline or cell phone number to add you to the meeting call for the upcoming SGM.
If you plan to attend this meeting, please RSVP and send your Skype contact or phone number to Su Ying at your earliest convenience at email@example.com
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this challenging time together. Please stay informed and take care of yourself!
