The role of the Board of Directors is to govern this 37 year-old non-profit organization in accordance with all applicable by-laws, to establish the organization's future direction and monitor its ongoing performance. This is facilitated by a board committed to the fundamental concept of the artist-run centre as a co-operative, community-based organization responding to the needs of the art community as well as to new trends in art.
The New Gallery has adopted a "consensus-trust model" for decision-making, and all meetings and discussions are guided by these principals. Board members should support collaborative discussion and group action, and be willing to contribute the extra measure of tolerance, goodwill, and effort required to make this system work effectively.
